Jared du Toit, who is heading to Arizona State University next month, had his day in the sun on Friday, claiming the Bostock Trophy as victor of the 113th sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Men’s Amateur Championship at Fairview Mountain Golf Club in Oliver.
Du Toit, of Kimberley Golf Club, climbed that mountain with a final round 73 to finish with a four-day total of 10-under 278 (68-68-69-73), seven strokes up on runner-up Stuart Macdonald of Point Grey and a member of the Purdue Boilermakers NCAA golf team.
Kevin Kwon of Swaneset Bay Resort was third with rounds of 72-71-75-70.
Royal Colwood junior Keaton Gudz made a hard charge with the lowest round of the day at 5-under 67 to finish sixth overall at 290, the top Vancouver Island player, just ahead of veteran Craig Doell of Victoria Golf Club.
Gudz — who actually started the day with a bogey on No. 1 but soundly recovered with birdies at 3, 5, 7, 10, 12 and 16 — finished 72-74-77-67, while Doell was tied for ninth with his rounds of 75-71-74-72.
Daniel Fratczek, also of Royal Colwood, tied for 11th (73-75-72-73); Brayden Eriksen of Pheasant Glen tied for 14th (74-66-75-79); Lawren Rowe of UVic (74-70-78-73), Dallas Jones of Mount Brenton (70-72-77-76) and Kevin Carrigan of Royal Colwood (75-72-71-77) were all tied for 17th.
Jake DuVall of Uplands (75-70-76-77) and Dylan Bell of Royal Colwood (74-74-73-77) were the only other Islanders to finish in the top 25, tied for 23rd.
