The Kings ruled Sunday at the Q Centre.
Siblings Jesse and Marshal King combined for 21 points as the Victoria Shamrocks (9-3) dismantled the Burnaby Lakers 23-5 in Western Lacrosse Association play.
“We bring out the best in each other and enjoy playing together,” said Marshal King.
But the younger King brother, Marshal, isn’t about to get into any statistical races at this point in his career against his more established older sibling.
“Jesse has been the more successful player in his career but hopefully one day we can look at a scoring race between each other,” said Marshal King, out of Claremont Secondary and NCAA Div. 1 Drexel University.
With a five-year age difference, Jesse and Marshal King never played on the same teams growing up. Now they are getting their chance.
NLL pro Jesse King, the Claremont Spartans and NCAA Big Ten Ohio State Buckeyes product, had eight goals and five assists for 13 points Sunday to extend his lead atop the WLA with 77 points and a 7.7 points-per-game average.
Marshal King added two goals and six assists on an eight-point night to push his team second-leading total to 53 points. Jacob Ruest added a hat-trick and three assists and veterans Rhys Duch and Chris Wardle a goal and four assists each. Larson Sundown and Matt Yager scored twice each and Nick Preston added a goal and three assists. Also scoring were Tyler Burton, Dan Smith and Liam Phillips. Toron Eccleston had a hat-trick for Burnaby (3-10).
It was top bounce back for Victoria after dropping its previous game to New Westminster.
“We discussed before the game that we were due as a team for a dominant performance,” said Marshal King.
The Nanaimo Timbermen (9-6) are in Burnaby Tuesday night to play the Lakers while the Shamrocks will host the Coquitlam Adanacs (9-4) Friday at the Q Centre on Stronger Together Night in honour of the injured Victoria and Saanich police officers.
