Jesse Kings played his first game of the season Tuesday, leading the Shamrocks to victory in Burnaby.
The Victoria Shamrocks moved to within a point of league-leading Maple Ridge through a 12-9 road victory over the Burnaby Lakers in Western Lacrosse Association play on Tuesday night.

The three-time defending league champions and 2015 Mann Cup victors benefitted from the return of Jesse King, who joined the Shamrocks for the first of five schedule regular-season appearances, recording four goals and an assist.

Corey Small had three goals and Cory Conway returned from injury to record a goal and four helpers for the now 6-2 Shamrocks. The Lakers slip to 3-4.

Ian McShane, Dallas Wade, Chris Wardle and Myles Kenny also scored for Victoria. It was Wade’s first goal as a call-up from the Junior Shamrocks. Robert Church, with a hat trick, Scott Jones, Matt Beers, Dane Stevens, Neil Arbogast, Ilija Gajic and Jackson Decker replied for Burnaby.

Cody Hagedorn made the start in goal, stopping 35 shots for Victoria, while the Lakers countered with Zak Boychuk — who led the league in goals-against average and save percentage coming into the matchup. He made 32 saves.

The Shamrocks return home for a key matchup against the New Westminster Salmonbellies on Friday night at 7:45 at The Q Centre. The Shamrocks alumni will honour Fred (Whitey) Severson by retiring his number between the first and second periods.
