No matter what he goes on to do in life, Spenser Watkins will never forget what he did on Friday night against the Victoria HarbourCats.
At any level of baseball, a perfect game is a special moment.
Watkins threw the rarity 鈥 facing the minimum 27 batters 鈥 as the Kitsap BlueJackets (15-27) defeated the HarbourCats (18-20) by a 2-0 count in a game that will go down in the annals of the West Coast League.
鈥淚n the bullpen [warming up before the game], I was all over the place and I thought to myself 鈥極h, Oh,鈥 鈥 Watkins said by phone after the game.
Asked if he ever dreamed about this happening to him, the native of Scottsdale, Ariz., said no.
鈥淚 had a no-hitter once in Little League but walked 10 guys,鈥 said the junior from Western Oregon University.
鈥淭his is an absolutely great feeling.鈥
Watkins struck out 10 HarbourCats.
鈥淸Watkins] dominated the strike zone and was in complete control,鈥 said HarbourCats manager Dennis Rogers.
Watkins鈥 accomplishment overshadowed a fine effort from Joe Navilhon, who went all the way for Victoria in giving up four hits.
鈥淛oe was outstanding and he deserved a better fate,鈥 said Rogers.
The HarbourCats return home tonight to begin a three-game set at Royal Athletic Park against the Corvallis Knights.
