It鈥檚 guaranteed to be a dog-day afternoon at Royal Athletic Park today.

The Victoria HarbourCats, who nailed down their team record 13th straight victory on Saturday night in a 5-1 win over the Kitsap BlueJackets, are presenting Bark in the Park at 1 p.m. Fans can bring their pooch along to the ball yard on a promotion sponsored by Bosley鈥檚 on Yates.

HarbourCats general manager Brad Norris-Jones hopes the event unleashes some interesting tales (or is that tails) after today鈥檚 promotion, a new one for the West Coast League ball club that is trying to keep it fresh.

鈥淚f I get two dogs or 100 dogs, it鈥檚 going to be a fun day at the park and I鈥檓 looking forward to it,鈥 Norris-Jones said. 鈥淚鈥檝e watched the Seattle Mariners with what they鈥檝e done with it and the Cleveland Indians, and they both do an excellent job.

鈥淲e鈥檙e selling entertainment and we鈥檙e selling baseball 鈥 that鈥檚 the bottom line. You look at our schedule and almost every night we have something unique. This will probably be one of the most fun days of the season.鈥

No bones about it.

On Saturday, it was a Christmas in June promotion (exactly six months from the holiday) with sa国际传媒 Children鈥檚 Hospital Foundation. It was also yoga day with mats, bats and beats featuring Moksha Yoga and Lululemon on the infield during the pre-game. Fireworks night is coming up on Thursday.

The BlueJackets couldn鈥檛 collar the HarbourCats in Saturday鈥檚 game and the locals will go for their 14th straight victory today, which would tie the WCL record established by the Wenatchee AppleSox in 2011. Victoria is 11-0 at home.

HarbourCats starter Will McAffer, the WCL pitcher of the week, had the BlueJackets on a short leash, striking out eight and allowing just one run on two hits over six innings. McAffer, of North Vancouver and a draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds, is a former North Shore Twin whose junior team earned a split against the Victoria Mariners in BCPBL play on Saturday.

Holden Lyons threw three innings of relief, allowed one hit and added six strikeouts.

Matt Lautz led the way offensively with two hits and three runs batted in for the HarbourCats before 2,370 fans.

Victoria improves to a league best 13-3 while the BlueJackets are 6-14 and head to today鈥檚 series ender with their tails between their legs.
