The Victoria Shamrocks were late coming out for their warmup Friday night and failed to show for the first period as well, digging a hole they never truly got out of in a 13-11 loss to the Coquitlam Adanacs at The Q Centre.

The performance snapped an 11-game win streak as the Shamrocks slipped to 11-3, while the Adanacs collected win No. 5 to go with six losses before 2,239 fans.

It was a horrendous first period for the Shamrocks, whose defence was guilty of several key mistakes.

The errors, combined with some shaky goaltending from starter Matt Roik, who was replaced twice by Cody Hagedorn in the first 20 minutes, spelled doom early as the Adanacs scored seven times on just 16 shots in the period. Bob Heyes threw Roik back in after coming out after the fourth goal.

Heyes鈥 philosophy of keeping opponents to nine goals or less while scoring four a period also took a severe blow as the Adanacs led 10-7 after just two periods. Victoria did out-shoot the visitors 61-47 overall, but the sluggish start was costly.

鈥淲e knew they were going to come out hard. They鈥檙e a desperate team, looking to make playoffs. They simply outworked us and we didn鈥檛 match them,鈥 said Shamrocks assistant coach Dave Lowdon.

Victoria closed to 7-5 and 9-7, but backup Hagedorn was left helpless on several scenarios in the second and third. The hosts managed to cut it to within a goal three times in the third, but never did tie the game once all night. Cory Conway hit the post late and Adanacs netminder Dan Lewis stoned Scott Ranger in tight.

The Shamrocks had out-scored their opponents 71-32 over the previous five games, but that went south quick in this outing.

Matthew Dinsdale had three goals and three assists while Brendon Anger, Travis Cornwall and Vincent Ricci had two goals apiece for Coquitlam. Brandon Bull, Ryan Johnson, Tyler Garrison and junior call-up Aiden Milburn added one each.

Dan Dawson, Jesse King and Rhys Duch all had two goals each for the Shamrocks. Corey Small, Tyler Hass, Mitch Jones, Steve Priolo and Ranger added one goal each.
