There was a heavy Island flavour to Team sa国际传媒's gold medal at the recent Canadian Under-16 Field Lacrosse Championship.
Four Island players and two coaches reside in Victoria and played prominent roles in the victory at the tournament, which was played in Ottawa, Ont.
Nick Pristine, Jacob Krismer, Zac Christianson and Connor Leies helped sa国际传媒 beat Ontario 14-8 in the gold-medal game. sa国际传媒 beat Alberta 17-2 in the semifinals and Iroquois 17-3 in the round-robin.
Head coach Scott Browning and assistant coach Robert Marshall are also from Victoria.
"I'm really proud of the young men on this team," Browning said. "Besides being a great group and talented players, they completely bought into and executed the game plan."
Next up for the provincial team is a college recruiting tournament in Baltimore in November.

Saanich sailor Max Gallant has booked his ticket to the 2013 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships.
Gallant, who sails out of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club, was victorious at last weekend's Youth National Regatta in Gimli, Man.
Gallant, 16, won the Under-19 Laser category in Gimli. He is also a former Byte Class national champion.
The 2013 Youth Sailing Worlds will take place in Limassol, Cyprus.

Runners gearing up for next month's Goodlife Victoria Marathon will want to lace up their shoes this weekend for the annual McNeill Bay Half-Marathon.
The McNeill race, and the Litespeed 5K which is run alongside it, is the annual warm-up for the marathon and the fall running season. Last year's women's winner, Claire Morgan, will be back to defend her title. Last year's race champion, Dylan Wykes, is still resting, having competed in his first Olympic Games marathon in London last month.
The race, which goes on Sunday at 8 a.m., begins at Oak Bay High School. Registration can be done at Island Runner or on race day. Funds raised from the event will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer.

Victoria driver Bill Okell is back in high gear.
After some mid-season engine troubles, Okell won both Nasport Lite Series races at Thunderhill Raceway in Sacramento last weekend, giving him the Nasport Lite overall points title.
Okell now turns his attention back to the SCCA GT-U Series when he travels to Mission's River's Edge Raceway in three weeks. Okell, a five-time GT-U Series champion, is currently fourth in the overall points race.

Nanaimo native and longtime University of sa国际传媒 athletics director, Dr. Bob Hindmarch, will be in Victoria today for a special reading and signing of his new book, Catch On and Run With It: The Sporting Life and Times of Dr. Bob Hindmarch.
The book, written by sa国际传媒 sports writer Alan Watson, details the 82-year-old Hindmarch's youth and, following graduation from John Shaw High School, his rise to the 2010 Order of sa国际传媒 After five years as a multisport athlete at UBC, Hindmarch coached and taught at UBC before becoming its director of athletics and recreation. He also served 16 years as vice-president of the Canadian Olympic Committee. Hindmarch was also GM and assistant coach to the legendary Father David Bauer with the 1964 Canadian Olympic hockey team, which was based out of UBC at the time.
Hindmarch and Watson will be at the Strathcona Hotel today from 4 to 6 p.m.
