Lakers cool off Shamrocks

The streak is over and the Western Lacrosse Association standings are now that much more cluttered after the host Burnaby Lakers defeated the Victoria Shamrocks 12-10 at Bill Copeland Arena on Friday night.
The streak is over and the Western Lacrosse Association standings are now that much more cluttered after the host Burnaby Lakers defeated the Victoria Shamrocks 12-10 at Bill Copeland Arena on Friday night.

Victoria鈥檚 winning run is snapped at three as the Shamrocks slip to 9-4 in the standings while the Lakers, at 8-6-1, move a point back of the third-place 鈥橰ocks, who do have two games in hand.

New Westminster, at 11-3-2, sits first with 24 points 鈥 six up on Victoria, which still has three games in hand. Maple Ridge, at 9-6-1, remains a point up on the Shamrocks, also having played three more games.

Friday鈥檚 outing began a half-hour late because of travel issues for the Shamrocks.

鈥淲e had a very short warm-up. Our mental game wasn鈥檛 there tonight. Too many mistakes,鈥 said head coach Bob Heyes.

Jeff Shattler had three goals and four assists in a losing cause, while Rhys Duch recorded a hat trick. Corey Small, Jon Harnett, Ben McCullough and Myles Kenny also scored. Robert Church had a hat trick and added three assists for the Lakers.
