Mark Steenhuis had a hat trick and John Grant Jr. scored six points to lead the Peterborough Lakers over the Langley Thunder in Game 4 of the Mann Cup Wednesday night.
The best-of-seven series is now tied 2-2. Game 5 is Friday night, Game 6 Saturday and Game 7, if necessary, will be Sunday.
Grant had one goal and five assists. Cory Vitarelli had three assists and a critical goal with 2.8 seconds left in the second period to extend Peterborough's lead after 40 minutes to 7-4.
Athan Iannucci was outstanding again for Langley, scoring four times and adding an assist. Garrett Billings scored once and earned three assists for the Thunder.
Peterborough heavily outshot Langley with a 54-34 edge.
The Lakers could only beat Brodie MacDonald nine times though. He took away the shot Peterborough had been hitting over his left shoulder throughout the series and forced them to find other ways to reach the back of the net.
Lakers goalie Mike Thompson, who came in in relief in Game 3, started Wednesday and shone from opening whistle to closing buzzer.
Peterborough led 3-1 after the first period and outscored Langley 4-3 in the second. Langley took the third period 4-2 to make it close but just couldn't get the tying goal.
