Layritz's bid to become the first Canadian team to win the Junior (ages 13-14) Little League Softball World Series fell short Saturday at Kirkland, Washington.

Playing in the final against West Nunaka, Anchorage, Alaska, Layritz dropped a 6-2 decision.

Lauren Syrup was the winning pitcher, scattering seven hits.

Ashley Penney was tagged with the loss and she also gave up seven hits. Penney recorded 11 strikeouts.

Stephanie Galitzine and Courtney Somer each collected two hits for Layritz.

Anchorage took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and then added four more runs in the second for a 5-0 lead. Layritz struck for two runs in the third but then Syrup held Layritz off the board for the remainder of the game.

On Friday, Layritz advanced to the final with a 5-2 decision over Maunabo, Puerto Rico while Anchorage earned the final berth with a 9-2 win over the host team from Kirkland.
