Braylon Lumb is picking up right where he left off last season for the Victoria Junior Shamrocks.

After playing 12 playoff games as a call-up for the Senior Shamrocks, in which he scored eight goals and added seven assists, Lumb has gained confidence that should pay off in his second year of junior.

On Saturday, the 20-year-old scored three goals and added four assists in a 14-8 Jr. Shamrocks win over the visiting Port Coquitlam Saints at The Q Centre, improving Victoria鈥檚 record to 2-1.

Lumb and Co. head to Coquitlam today at 2 p.m.

鈥淟umber is a great player. He does his job and he鈥檚 a competitor. The kid wants to win and I couldn鈥檛 ask for anything more,鈥 said Jr. Shamrocks head coach Terry Dennett, who watched his team slip slightly on 4-0 and 8-4 leads.

A strong third period, in which Lumb had two of his goals and an assist, led to the victory.

鈥淭he coaches came into the dressing room before the third and said we needed to pick up our games and we answered the bell. We were happy with the performance,鈥 Lumb said of the group.

鈥淭he young guys are doing a great job. We鈥檝e got a bunch of young guys and we needed time to mesh. Our third game in, we鈥檙e finally starting to get it, which is good.鈥

Cole Pickup, who was named team captain just prior to the game, led the way offensively with eight points, including a pair of goals for the Jr. Shamrocks, who also received six points each from Brian Robb (three goals and three assists) and Skyler Wilson (two goals and four helpers). Ben Preston and Ben Griffin added two goals apiece.

The Wilsons are twins out of Edmonton鈥檚 Vimy Ridge Academy and have already committed to Denver University in 2018, despite being first-year Intermediates.

Dylan Kellough led the Saints with four goals as they closed the game to within 4-3 and 8-7 with three-goal runs.

Port Coquitlam used several Westshore Junior B call-ups as the Saints, like most teams in the sa国际传媒 Jr. A Lacrosse League, await players to return from colleges.

Meanwhile, the Intermediate Shamrocks defeated New Westminster 16-11 earlier in the afternoon at The Q Centre to improve to 1-1 after losing their opener 10-9 in overtime last weekend in Burnaby.

Caleb Kueber scored five goals for Victoria.
