Bob Burrows is hoping for a far superior result on the Strathcona Mavericks' current trip to Prince George.

Unlike two weekends ago, when the Victoria senior baseball all-star club soured at provincials with a 1-2 record, Burrows is looking for bigger and better things as the Mavericks compete at the 2012 Canadian Senior Men's Championship, beginning today.

"We'll have a full roster this time, not like it was at sa国际传媒's because of work commitments," stressed Burrows. "I think we've got a real good shot at winning."

The Mavericks open the tournament with a 2 p.m. start today against Ontario 2. The Victoria team will toss out pitcher Graham Campbell to start the opener and likely go to Shawn Loglisci in Game 2 vs. Manitoba at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Manager Burrows' crew then faces New Brunswick on Saturday at 9 a.m. before the two pools of four teams cross over for playoff action on Saturday afternoon. The top two teams receive byes into Sunday's semifinals at 9: 30 a.m. and 12: 30 p.m. before bronze and gold medal games go at 4 and 7 p.m. respectively.

Burrows said the recent provincials was a disappointing result for the locals, who earned the right to compete in the 2012 nationals by winning the 2011 B.C championship.

"We'll have a bigger complement of players, and offensively I hope we do a better job than we did at provincials," he said.

"We need to score more runs in this tournament."

Burrows expects the Ontario teams to be extremely competitive, as well as Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

"There are a lot of good old ball players from across the Prairies and I'm not expecting any weak teams," he stressed. "But we are more than capable of winning this."
