The South Island Royals have jumped into playoff contention in the sa国际传媒 Major Midget Hockey League.

And they can thank the last-place Thompson Blazers. The Royals ventured to Kamloops last weekend for a pair of games against the last-place Blazers and came back to the Island with a sweep of the four points. Thanks to goals from Nick Guiney, Thomas Sercombe and Brodie Smith, South Island took the first game by a 3-0 score. In the second game, the Royals used early goals from Smith and Cole Pickup and a late winner from Guiney to come away with a 5-4 victory.

The two wins improved the Royals record to 6-7-5 and they jumped into fifth spot in the BCMMHL standings. The Blazers dropped to 1-15-2.

Next up for South Island is a pair of home games this weekend against the second-place Cariboo Cougars.

Game 1 goes Saturday at noon at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre, while Sunday's game is at 10 a.m. at the Memorial Centre.
