It was expected to be a closer game, but in the end it was a mismatch.

The Mount Douglas Rams easily defeated the Kelowna Secondary School Owls 51-13 in sa国际传媒 high school senior boys鈥 triple-A football quarter-final action on a sunny but cool Friday afternoon at Goudy Field in Langford.

The Rams scored on their first offensive possession and never looked back.

Gavin Cobb had three touchdowns, Declann Michielin added two more and offensive lineman Aidan Kachanoski also rumbled in from three yards out. Quarterback Gideone Kremler threw for two scores, including an impressive 60-yard hookup with Gevhahn McNally-Hardisty.

Mount Douglas now advances to next Saturday鈥檚 semifinals at sa国际传媒 Place against today鈥檚 winner of the game between the No. 1 Terry Fox Ravens and defending champion South Delta Sun Devils.

鈥淚t feels good to have a chance to play another game next week,鈥 said Cobb, who returned from a concussion to haul in an eight-yard TD pass from Kremler and added rushing scores of 29 and 21 yards.

Michielin finished with 129 yards rushing, Cobb added 113 along the ground and Manny Lopez ran for 101 yards. Kremler completed 11-of-15 passes for 151 yards.

Michielin鈥檚 TD runs were from seven yards each, but he also had lengthy scampers of 27 and 33 yards.

鈥淲e played hard and came out on top,鈥 Michielin said of a quick 22-0 advantage. 鈥淯sually, that鈥檚 our game plan. Coach wanted us to start hard and we carried it right through the second half.鈥

And the Owls had trouble with Rams kickoffs, giving up the ball on at least three occasions.

鈥淭hey gave us way too many chances with that, and that gave us a huge advantage,鈥 Michielin agreed of the special-teams errors. 鈥淲e killed their will with that.鈥

Defensively, the Rams didn鈥檛 allow much. Kelowna quarterback Parker Simson ran in from three yards out in the second half and also connected with Adam DiBiase for a 38-yard pass and run score as the Owls trailed 22-7 midway through the second quarter.

Simson, who also plays safety, picked off a pair of Kremler passes.

Trystan Waters had a quarterback sack for the Rams and Isaiah Hunt hauled in an interception. McNally-Hardisty, Lopez and Ethan Hendricks had recoveries off kicks.

鈥淲e challenged our kids to be their best early. We wanted to be aggressive, we wanted to go for two-point converts and we wanted to be the most physical team on the field and we ticked off all those boxes,鈥 said Rams head coach Mark Townsend, whose team had a 30-7 lead at the half.

Cobb and Kachanoski both recorded two-point conversions.

In the end, the Rams were too much for the Owls.

鈥淭his was our most complete game on offence and defence and we had some big plays on special teams. We want to carry this momentum going forward, get in a great week of practice in preparation for the dome [sa国际传媒 Place] next Saturday,鈥 said Townsend.

鈥淜elowna is a very talented team. We weren鈥檛 looking past them. Parker, you saw, is very athletic,鈥 Townsend said of the Owls鈥 quarterback. 鈥淭hey have some big and athletic linemen as well and DiBiase is a talented receiver.鈥

In Tier II varsity play, Spectrum lost a close 13-6 result to Earl Marriott in the semifinals.
