The Mount Douglas Rams senior football team had its regular-season win streak, dating back to Oct. 12, 2013, snapped by the Vancouver College Fighting Irish at O鈥橦agan Field on the mainland on Saturday afternoon.

The 20-0 result will likely cause a change in the sa国际传媒 high school triple-A varsity football rankings this week. The Rams were No. 1 entering the weekend, while the Irish were No. 3 behind Port Coquitlam鈥檚 Terry Fox.

Mount Doug鈥檚 last regular-season defeat came at the hands of W.J. Mouat of Abbotsford in a 52-49 result.

Saturday鈥檚 setback was more about the Fighting Irish defence that kept the Rams at bay.

鈥淎s expected, College was the best offence and defence we have faced thus far this year,鈥 said Rams head coach Mark Townsend.

鈥淭heir offensive line play was impressive and [quarterback] Jacob Samuels stretched the field and hit some very timely passes. Equally impressive was their swarming defence.

鈥淟osing is part of the process for improvement and we were pleased that our kids continued to play hard until the end, after College had built up the 20-0 half-time lead,鈥 he added. 鈥淲e left some potential points on the field in the first half, which we will endeavor to correct.鈥

On Friday, defending champion South Delta, which snapped Mount Doug鈥檚 three straight provincial title run in the championship game last season, defeated Belmont 37-7 at Westhills Stadium.

This week, the Rams (3-1) will face Belmont (0-4) on Friday at 5 p.m. at Westhills.
