After pondering his options, Gavin Cobb has made his decision.
The Mount Douglas Rams receiver, defensive back and sometimes quarterback will take his talents to Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, along with fellow teammates Oliver MacKenzie (an all-star defensive back) and Justice Kremler (linebacker). Nathanael Durkan of John Barsby is also off to SFU.
鈥淚t took me a while to make my decision, but I think I鈥檝e made the right one,鈥 said Cobb, who will suit up with the Clan, who play NCAA Division II in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. 鈥淚鈥檓 excited about it.
鈥淚 was really looking at UBC, but something kept telling me SFU. It will be cool travelling up and down the west coast,鈥 he said.
Simon Fraser won out over UBC, Manitoba, Regina, Guelph and Carleton. The 18-year-old, who was named the triple-A player of the year in 2015 and helped the Rams to a provincial championship, also visited UBC (the Vanier Cup champions), Guelph and Regina.
鈥淲e are extremely pleased to see Gavin, Justice and Ollie moving onto the next level,鈥 said Rams head coach Mark Townsend. 鈥淭hese three young men have worked extremely hard to achieve this goal and I know they will all have an immense and positive impact at Simon Fraser University.
鈥淲e will certainly miss their talent and leadership, but it is always exciting to have our players move onto college. With these three commitments, Mount Douglas has now produced 32 players since 2010 who played college football upon graduation and I know there will be a few more added to that list before this spring is over.鈥
Lineman Aidan Kachanoski and Trystin Waters are also expected to play at the next level.
