A good showing in the annual Nike Spring Classic high school girls鈥 soccer tournament was all that was left for University of Victoria Vikes women鈥檚 soccer coach Tracy David to lock up six talented new recruits for next season.
After witnessing impressive showings from Emma Dewit, Annalyn Kind, Abby MacKenzie, Ali Martin, Mackenzie Ringrose and Emma Skalik at last weekend鈥檚 tournament at UVic, David welcomed the six talented Grade 12s to the Vikes family.
鈥淲e had a very good season this past year and we are looking to bolster our lineup after the loss of some key veterans,鈥 David said in a statement. 鈥淭hese are young, exciting players who we hope in some point in their careers will fill those shoes.鈥
Dewit, from Duncan, captains her Cowichan Secondary team and was the top goal scorer for her team at the Provincial B Cup last season.
Wide midfielder Kind has starred for both Reynolds Secondary and the Vancouver Island Wave. MacKenzie is another Reynolds product and the defender was named the Reynolds athlete of the year in her Grade 11 year.
Martin comes to the Vikes from Calgary where the striker starred for William Aberhart High School and the Calgary Blizzard鈥檚 program.
Ringrose was born in Vancouver but spent the past few years in Edmonton where she suited up for Strathcona High School, and Skalik will join the Vikes from Campbell River where she has played midfield for Carihi and the Upper Island Riptide.
