The winner will advance straight to Sunday afternoon鈥檚 final, while the loser will play in Sunday morning鈥檚 semifinal.
鈥淭hat鈥檚 where you want to be, straight through to that final,鈥� said Van Osch, of Nanaimo, who picked up 4-2 and 10-2 victories over Brandi Tinkler and Cierra Fisher 鈥� both of Kamloops 鈥� respectively, in her two draws on Friday.
It wasn鈥檛 easy as Van Osch and her rink of Carley Sandwith, Marika Van Osch and Ashley Sanderson, recorded a deuce in the 10th end in the morning draw and bounced back from steals of one in each of the first two ends in the afternoon before recording three-enders in the third, fourth and sixth ends and shaking hands.
鈥淲e鈥檙e feeling really good about where we are and very confident with the ice. Today will be a game of patience. We鈥檝e played [Jensen] a couple of times and I expect this to be a good game, again,鈥� added Kalia Van Osch, who has split two games against Jensen this year.
Jensen lost her first of the round-robin event, 6-5 in an extra end to Corryn Brown of Kamloops in the afternoon.
Brown (now 4-2) had defeated Katherine Silversides of the Juan de Fuca Curling Club 8-2 in the morning. Silversides is now 1-4 and out of the playoff picture. Chilliwack鈥檚 Stephanie Prinse, with third Merit Thorson and alternate Nicole Block of the Victoria Curling Centre, lost 8-6 to Jensen to slip to 2-3.
In junior men鈥檚 play, Tyler Klymchuk鈥檚 split Langley/VCC rink 鈥� which includes third Corey Chester, second Sanjay Bowry and coach Todd Troyer of Victoria 鈥� remains in first place after a 5-3 afternoon win over Langley鈥檚 Tyler Tardi.
Klymchuk was 5-0, tied with Kyle Habkirk of the host club, who stole one in the 10th end to edge a VCC/Esquimalt split squad skipped by Paul Henderson 7-6 in the afternoon. Henderson falls to 1-4 in the standings behind clubmate Cameron de Jong who improved to 3-2 with a resounding 12-3 victory over Brendan Cliff of Vernon.
Duncan Silversides of the VCC doubled off Brandon Emslie of Kelowna 6-3 to improve to 2-3 with late Friday games still on the slate. Klymchuk was facing Habkirk in the late draw in a key matchup that will help determine first place.
n WINNING START: At the Men鈥檚 Open in Maple Ridge, Steve Waaitainen of Nanaimo recorded a three-ender in the second on his way to a convincing 9-2 victory in the morning over John Molendyk of the Marpole Curling club in A-event play at the Golden Ears Winter Club.
Neil Dangerfield, of the VCC, dumped Patrick McEachran of the North Shore Curling Club 8-2, while the VCC鈥檚 Wes Craig defeated Will House of the Royal City club 8-3 as 17 teams are looking for one of five spots to advance to the Canadian Direct Insurance men鈥檚 provincial championship in Parksville the first week of February.
The A-event qualifier will go this afternoon at 2 p.m., with two B-qualifiers set for 7 p.m.
