Nanaimo rink perfect at Junior Women's provincial curling championship

Kalia Van Osch is off to a perfect 2-0 start after Day 1 of the 2013 Tim Hortons Junior Women鈥檚 provincial championship at the Coquitlam Curling Club.

Van Osch 鈥 and her Nanaimo rink of third Carley Sandwith (of Victoria), sister Marika Van Osch at second and lead Ashley Sanderson 鈥 defeated Amy Edwards of the Vernon Curling Club 11-4 in the afternoon draw, thanks to deuces in the second, fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth ends.

In the morning, Van Osch doubled up on Corryn Brown of Kamloops 10-5 with steals of two in each of the third and fourth ends and a three-ender in the seventh.

鈥淕ood start, so far,鈥 said skip Kalia Van Osch. 鈥淲e played really well today. We figured out the ice early and were steady throughout.鈥

Meanwhile, Katherine Silversides of the Juan de Fuca club lost 9-4 to Brandi Tinkler of Kamloops and Chilliwack鈥檚 Stephanie Prinse 鈥 with Victoria鈥檚 Merit Thorson at third 鈥 thumped Ciera Fisher of Kamloops 11-3 in eight ends in Draw 1.

In junior men鈥檚 play, Tyler Klymchuk of Langley 鈥 with third Corey Chester, second Sanjay Bowry and coach Todd Troyer all from the Victoria Curling Centre 鈥 breezed to a 12-3 win over Duncan Silversides of the VCC.

Cameron de Jong鈥檚 VCC rink was upset 9-8 in an extra end by Kyle Habkirk of the host club in the afternoon before facing Silversides in the night game.

Paul Henderson鈥檚 VCC rink dumped Cliff 12-4 in the afternoon.
