It’s all over for Nanaimo Mayor Leonard Krog. The only thing left to do is prepare the Nanaimo bars.

Krog challenged Penticton Mayor John Vassilaki to a friendly bet over which hometown hockey team — the Nanaimo Clippers or the Penticton Vees — would prevail in the sa国际传媒 Hockey League’s Fred Page Cup final.

Vassilaki happily accepted the challenge. The Vees beat the Clippers four games in a row, clinching the title on Wednesday evening in Nanaimo.

On Thursday morning, Krog sent Vassilaki an email in verse form: “Good morning Penticton. Somewhere the ice is shining and the skates are laced up tight, but there is no joy in Nanaimo — the Clippers lost again last night.”

Now Krog is preparing to follow through on his promise.

He’ll be in Penticton in early June to fulfil his pledge to wear a Penticton Vees’ jersey for a day and to deliver a plate of Nanaimo bars. Krog has also promised to wear the jersey at a Nanaimo council meeting.

He’s also out $100 — to be donated to a charity chosen by Vassilaki.
