Local racers will be tasked with fending off out-of-town invaders as Western Speedway features its annual P&R Truck Centre鈥檚 Daffodil Cup at the Langford raceway tonight and tomorrow.

Among the visitors are defending champion Andy Alberding and his son Kyle, along with Oregon鈥檚 Matt Hein, who finished second in both evening races in 2015 and is coming off a victory at the Rory Price Memorial at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington.

It was the seventh time Hein has claimed that race, which has a $10,000 prize.

Mitch Holte, also of Oregon, will give fans their money鈥檚 worth as well.

Local representation in the winged sprint car races will come from Langford鈥檚 Jeff Montgomery, 18-year-old Robbie Price of Cobble Hill (who captured the Friday night race in 2015 only to blow his motor on Saturday) and Darren Yates of Duncan, who according to Western Speedway officials, will debut a new chassis. Kyle Vantreight will also get back behind the wheel to race the family No. 66 car.

The weekend also includes the Richlock Rentals non-wing sprint cars, presented by Millstone Heating & Sheet Metal; Old Timers Racing Association; and Island dwarf cars.

Gates open at 4:30 p.m. on both nights with qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m. Following Saturday night鈥檚 racing, country band Montgomery County will perform for the fans.
