The rematch Sunday night at The Q Centre turned out pretty much like the 2017 Western Lacrosse Association final between the Victoria Shamrocks and New Westminster Salmonbellies, with the 鈥橞ellies prevailing.
New Westminster recorded a 9-8 victory over Victoria before 1,968 fans in the first game between the clubs since meeting in the 2017 league final, which was won in five games by the Salmonbellies.
New Westminster remained undefeated at 3-0 while Victoria fell to 1-2.
Mitch Jones led New Westminster with the hat-trick, while Jordan McBride had two goals in a five-point night. Chris Wardle, Casey Jackson and Jesse King scored twice each for Victoria. King had seven points on the night and Jackson five.
Steve Priolo and Rob Hellyer scored the other Victoria goals.
Alexis Buque made 51 saves in goal for the Salmonbellies and Chris Del Bianco 47 for Victoria.
The Shamrocks are back in action Wednesday night in Langley before returning to The Q Centre for the Island derby against the Nanaimo Timbermen on Sunday.
