Work hard and capitalize on your special teams. It’s the recipe for success for road games in the sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Hockey League.

And it certainly was Saturday night for the Victoria Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies ventured over the Malahat into Frank Crane Arena and came home with two points thanks to two power-play goals and a shorthanded goal, leading to a 3-2 victory over the Nanaimo Clippers.

The victory pushed the Grizzlies’ win streak to three games and improved their record to 7-3. The Clippers fall to 5-4-1.

Twenty-year-old forward Ethan Nother played hero for the Grizzlies, scoring a power-play goal with six minutes remaining in the third period, a minute after the Clippers got a power-play goal of their own from Tristan Crozier to tie the game. The goal was Nother’s seventh of the season as the London, Ont., product continues to make the Grizzlies’ power play click. Victoria was 2-for-6 with the man advantage.

After Crozier opened the scoring midway through the first, Jamie Rome drew the Grizzlies even with four minutes remaining in the period, tipping in a Lucas Clark shot. Justin Michaelian’s short-handed marker was the lone goal of the second period.

Zack Rose made 28 saves in the Grizzlies net to record his fifth win the season. Clippers’ Noah Featherstonhaugh-Gowe made 30 saves.

The Grizzlies now hit the road for three games beginning Friday night in Trail. On Saturday Victoria visits Penticton and the road trip wraps up Sunday in Surrey.
LOOSE PUCKS: The Grizzlies were again without injured players Shawn O’Malley, Cam Thompson and Jacson Alexander.
