The Oak Bay Barbs flexed their muscle and upended the provincially top-ranked and previously undefeated Shawnigan Lake School Stags 20-15 late Wednesday in the boys’ Quad-A Island high school rugby championship game at Wallace Field on the University of Victoria campus.

Both teams advanced to the sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ championships next weekend at Rotary Stadium in Abbotsford, where the Stags will be looking to rebound from their Island setback and win their ninth sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ high school title in 10 years.

In other Island finals, the Claremont Spartans defeated the Nanaimo District Senior Secondary Islanders 61-17 in the Triple-A championship game, Brentwood College beat the St. Michaels University School Blue Jags 43-24 in the Double-A championship final and Shawnigan Lake defeated SMUS 52-26 in the junior high final.

The Belmont Bulldogs defeated the G.P. Vanier Towhees of Courtenay 35-22 in a play-in contest played at SMUS to earn the final Island high school berth into the sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ tournament.
