It was a good opening day for Island triple-A teams at the Telus sa国际传媒 High School Basketball Championships. Not so much for double-A schools.
The No. 5-ranked Oak Bay Breakers rolled to a 62-41 win over No. 12 Gleneagle in the first game of the tournament at the Langley Events Centre on Wednesday. The No. 9 Claremont Spartans then squeaked by No. 8 Charles Best 62-61 in an afternoon thriller.
Calli McMillan-Beaucamp had 19 points for the Spartans, while Sierra Reisig came through with a strong second half after sitting the entire second quarter in foul trouble. She finished with 15.
鈥淥n to the giant that is Brookswood in the semi,鈥 Reisig said of the defending champion and No. 1 seed, which Claremont plays tonight at 7. Oak Bay faces No. 13 Panorama Ridge, which toppled No. 4 Kelowna 63-61.
In double-A action, No. 8 Pacific Christian lost 85-64 to No. 9 G.W. Graham; No. 11 Ballenas was dumped 82-65 by Nechako Valley and No. 12 St. Michaels University School lost 88-62 to No. 5 Vernon.
