Four Island schools qualified for the sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ high school girls’ sevens championship at UBC over the weekend, and when all was said and done, they swept the top four positions in the 16-team tournament.

Oak Bay High led the way, repeating as provincial sevens champions thanks to a hard-fought 15-10 win over the cross-town rival Belmont Bulldogs in the Cup championship match.

Oak Bay, Belmont, Shawnigan Lake and Cowichan all finished undefeated in pool play after Day 1 of the event. That set up semifinal matches between Oak Bay and Shawnigan Lake and Belmont and Cowichan on Day 2. Oak Bay prevailed 17-7, while Belmont cruised to a 35-0 victory. And the Cup final went down to the final few seconds when Oak Bay’s Sofie DeGoede dove over the end line for the deciding points.

In the bronze-medal match, Shawnigan Lake defeated Cowichan 24-5.

Abbotsford defeated Elgin Park in the Plate final, while Lake City beat Yale in the Bowl final.
