Olympians Porter, Sydor headline Victoria Sports Hall of Fame’s Class of 2013

Rower Derek Porter won the 1993 world championship and 1996 Olympic silver medal at Atlanta in the single sculls and Olympic gold at Barcelona in 1992 with Mike Spracklen’s Canadian eight.

Also being inducted is three-time world champion and Atlanta Olympics silver-medallist mountain biker Alison Sydor.

The induction gala will take place Oct. 26 at PISE.

Also being enshrined are 18-time gold-medallist Paralympics swimmer Michael Edgson and 1960s all-rounder Gillian Thomas.

Included in the builders category are Kjeld Brodsgaard, who has headed the Island soccer league, and Keith Dagg, who has been instrumental in keeping the annual PGA Tour sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ stop in Victoria and also bringing two men’s world curling championships to Victoria. — sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½
