There will be at least one Pacific FC player with conflicting emotions when sa国际传媒 meets Trinidad and Tobago this month in Frisco, Texas, with the winner advancing to a prestigious opening date this summer in the Copa America against defending World Cup champion Argentina.
Striker Reon Moore, capped 25 times with eight goals for Trinidad and Tobago, has been signed to a two-year guaranteed contract by PFC for the 2024 and 2025 Canadian Premier League seasons.
Signing a CONCACAF international, especially one in the relative prime of his career at 27, is certainly a boon to the Tridents. Moore represented the Trinidad and Tobago national team, known as the Soca Warriors, in the 2021 Gold Cup and the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 CONCACAF Nations League competitions. The five-foot-nine native of Sangre Grande scored three goals and added an assist over five 2023-2024 Nations League games last year, including scoring the equalizer in a 2-1 upset of the U.S. in November.
“Reon comes to Pacific with ambition,” Tridents head coach James Merriman said in a statement. “He is scoring goals at the international level consistently and this comes down to his strong mentality. Reon will add presence to our group.”
Moore, however, was not selected to the Trinidad and Tobago roster for the crucial Copa America play-in game March 23 against sa国际传媒 in Texas. CPL players selected to the Soca Warriors roster for the sa国际传媒 game include Ryan Telfer and Andre Rampersad from the HFX Wanderers of Halifax and former CPL player Malcolm Shaw, who played last season for Atlético Ottawa.
The CPL will be Moore’s second time playing professionally outside his home country after a brief stint with CSD Municipal of Guatemala. But mostly his career has been spent in the Trinidad and Tobago Premier Football League with the North East Stars, Matura ReUnited and most notably with Defence Force, where he helped lead the team to both the league regular-season championship and the TTPFL Knockout Cup title last year. Moore had nine goals in his six seasons with Defence Force.
Moore is the fourth striker signed for the 2024 season by PFC and joins captain Josh Heard along with Dutch-import Ayman Sellouf and former sa国际传媒 U-20 player Adonijah Reid.
Pacific FC opens the 2024 CPL season April 13 at Starlight Stadium against the HFX Wanderers.
