Matthew Phillips might be the best player ever to play for the Victoria Royals.
Tyler Soy dished and Matthew Phillips delivered in a 6-3 Victoria Royals victory over the host Edmonton Oil Kings before an announced crowd of 6,389 at Rogers Place.

Anaheim Ducks draft pick Soy had four assists while Flames-prospect Phillips scored three times to push his season-leading Royals total to 32 goals.

Of Phillips鈥 four career WHL hat-tricks, three have been against Edmonton, including in a 6-1 victory Oct. 14, as Victoria swept the two-game season series 2-0.

Victoria, which outshot the Oil Kings 42-21, won for the third consecutive game to move to 25-18-4. But the Oil Kings (18-23-4) made the Royals work for it and led three times at 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2.

鈥淲e raised our level and played with more urgency,鈥 said Victoria coach Dave Lowry.

鈥淥ur top guys took over the game. We kept it simple and got the job done.鈥

Victoria scored four unanswered goals, starting with defenceman and L.A. Kings prospect Chaz Reddekopp鈥檚 short-handed counter at 5:38 of the second period.

鈥淭hat always deflates a team,鈥 said Lowry, of the effect Reddekopp鈥檚 short-handed effort had on the Oil Kings.

The Royals went 2-8 on the power play and Edmonton 1-4.

Victoria goaltender Griffen Outhouse鈥檚 stretch of two consecutive shutout games ended when Will Warm, ranked 154th among North American skaters for the 2017 NHL draft, opened scoring for Edmonton at 8:41 of the first period.

Jack Walker and Jared Dmytriw scored Victoria鈥檚 other goals. Walker, Reddekopp and defenceman Marsel Ibragimov had two points each on the night.

The Royals are in Calgary tonight and Red Deer on Saturday to close out their Alberta adventure.

鈥淲e are going to have to quickly roll four lines in order to be successful [in this three-games-in-three-nights road span],鈥 said Lowry.

ICE CHIPS: Blue-liner Scott Walford, ranked 153rd among North American skaters for the 2017 NHL draft, returned to the Victoria lineup after missing three games. . . . Royals forward Ryan Peckford, rated 87th for this year鈥檚 NHL draft, missed his second consecutive game and is listed week to week. Thursday鈥檚 game in Edmonton was especially tough to sit out for Peckford because he is from nearby Stony Plain. . . . Oil Kings GM Randy Hansch played goal in the WHL with the Victoria Cougars from 1982-83 to 1985-86.
