After a sluggish 0-2-1 start to the sa国际传媒 West soccer season, coach Tracy David鈥檚 University of Victoria women鈥檚 Vikes team has gone from stuck in neutral to driving in cruise control.
The Vikes extended their win streak to six games on Saturday by way of a 1-0 win over the visiting Regina Cougars at Centennial Stadium, finally depositing a goal behind goalkeeper Savannah Williams, who was kept busy all game.
Victoria fired 25 shots at Williams鈥檚 net, forcing her to make 10 saves in a solid effort.
Caitlin Milham finally solved the puzzle in the 62nd minute as the Vikes improved their record in the West Division to 6-2-1. Regina slips to 1-5-2 in the East.
The Cougars, who managed just three shots, almost tied it late on a corner kick.
鈥淲e created chances but we didn鈥檛 hit the target,鈥 David said. 鈥淲hen you don鈥檛 hit the target, you鈥檙e susceptible to losing games. At the very end, they had a dangerous chance off a corner that could鈥檝e been in the back of the net to make it a tie game.
鈥淲e have to be more consistent and more composed around the goal. When teams have a lot of the run of the play and chances like we did, sometimes it can turn against you.鈥
