After a huge high of defeating the South Delta Sun Devils 39-6 last week in a rematch of last year鈥檚 Subway Bowl sa国际传媒 high school triple-A senior football championship, the Mount Douglas Rams will attempt to keep their intensity up today against the visiting New Westminster Hyacks.

The No. 1 Rams (2-0) welcome the No. 5 Hyacks (1-1) at Mount Douglas at 3 p.m., following a junior varsity matchup between the two schools at 12:30 p.m.

鈥淭here are no easy conference games for us in October and New West is no exception,鈥 Rams head coach Mark Townsend said of coach Farhan Lalji鈥檚 Hyacks program. 鈥淣ew West is a very talented team on both sides of the ball. They run their wing offence extremely well and their misdirection and counter plays are very difficult to defend.鈥

The Hyacks were trumped 49-21 by the No. 3-ranked Vancouver College Fighting Irish last weekend, letting a close game at the half get away in the second.

Mount Douglas gave up the opening points to last year鈥檚 triple-A champ South Delta, but then rattled off 39 straight points. The Rams were up just 12-6 at the half.

鈥淥ur players are a hard working bunch of kids,鈥 said Townsend. 鈥淟ast week was a big victory and I know they are anxious to get back on the field and ride the momentum gained in the win over South Delta.

鈥淲e always focus a lot on the football, creating turnovers on defence and ball security on offence. In our game with South Delta, our players did an outstanding job with four interceptions and a fumble recovery. We will need another great effort in the turnover department [today] against a very talented New West team.鈥

Last week, Gideone Kremler threw two touchdown passes to Gavin Cobb and another to Gevhahn McNally-Hardisty, while Cobb tossed another major to Josh Lucas. Declann Michielin ran for two more scores for the Rams in the win.

Kremler finished 20 of 26 in passing for 178 yards and the three majors. Cobb was 3-for-3 for 60 yards in passing with one TD. Michielin ran off 104 yards along the ground while Cobb added 50 yards rushing and had nine catches for 77 yards and two TDs. Oliver MacKenzie caught eight passes for 78 yards.

Defensively, Michielin had eight tackles and two interceptions while MacKenzie had three tackles and two picks. Shawn Dillon, Quinn Jenish and Cobb all had four tackles apiece while Aidan Kachanoski had a fumble recovery.

Meanwhile, Belmont (0-2) will have its hands full with that same Vancouver College (2-0) team today at 5 p.m. at Westhills Stadium in Western Conference play. Belmont lost 35-7 to Notre Dame last weekend.
