After some stellar high school basketball seasons with the Mount Douglas Rams, Conor Morgan had a difficult decision to make following his senior year.

The six-foot-eight forward could either stay at home and play CIS basketball for the University of Victoria Vikes or takes his talents elsewhere.

He decided to follow in the footsteps of his parents - Dave and Freda - and attend university away from Victoria and play for the Vikes' arch rival.

"My parents gave me the options and I made the decision,'' said Morgan, who will suit up with the UBC Thunderbirds this year. "I wanted to move and that will probably help me mature faster. Portland also showed some interest in me but I wanted to be closer to home so I could come back to Victoria on weekends.''

In his senior year at Mount Douglas, Morgan helped the Rams reach the sa国际传媒 triple-A boys championship at the Langley Events Centre. The Rams lost out in the Round of 16 to eventual finalist Walnut Grove. Morgan was selected as a second team all-star at the championship.

After the high school season, Morgan was invited to attend the Under-18 Team sa国际传媒 camp in Toronto. He was one the 12 players selected to play for sa国际传媒 at the 2012 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championships in Brazil. The Canadians finished third.

"The under-18 championships were a real good experience for me,'' said Morgan. "It brought up my level of intensity for physical basketball.''

After the completion of the UBC season, Morgan hopes to get another call from Team sa国际传媒 to try out for the squad that will be going to the world junior championship in the Czech Republic. It is expected that the training camp will be held in June.

Morgan will have to wait until the end of the sa国际传媒 West season to play the Vikes. UVic will travel to the War Memorial gym at UBC on Feb. 15 and then the teams will conclude the regular season on Feb. 16 at McKinnon Gym.
