Hunter Lake is graduating from a Rebel to a Gladiator.

The former Westshore Rebels鈥 player, who played quarterback and receiver during his sa国际传媒 Football Conference tenure, will join the Chabot College Gladiators, located in Hayward, California, just outside of San Francisco.

Chabot College plays in the Northern California Football Conference of the California Community College Athletics Association, which has produced the likes of San Diego Chargers wide receiver Stevie Johnson. Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost is also an alumnus.

鈥淗e鈥檚 a great kid, a very solid football player and has worked very hard to earn this opportunity,鈥 Rebels head coach J.C. Boice said in a statement. 鈥淗e has all the tangibles that programs in the U.S. are looking for: talent, strong work ethic and a coachable spirit.鈥

Lake moved to the receiver position after taking over the quarterbacking duties with the Rebels.

Last year, in his final season as a Rebel, Lake recorded 51 receptions for 708 yards and four touchdowns and was named to the 2015 BCFC all-star team. Proving his versatility, Lake had spent most of his career as a Rebel at QB, throwing for 5,131 yards and 36 touchdowns during the past three seasons.

鈥淚t has always been my dream to play ball in America,鈥 Lake said in a statement. 鈥淚t鈥檚 more than a game down there. It鈥檚 a way of life.鈥

The six-foot-two, 230-pounder, who hails from Richmond, says his five years of Rebels football prepared him for the next step.

鈥淚 feel lucky to have been part of the Rebels organization,鈥 said Lake. 鈥淎long with great coaching, we have an amazing facility and a great support staff that Victoria has accumulated in the last few years. It鈥檚 already pushing players to collegiate and professional levels of competition.鈥

Boice believes the Rebels鈥 program will continue to produce strong athletes.

鈥淚 could not think of a better person than Hunter to be representing the Rebels and the opportunities that athletes now have by being developed in the Rebel program,鈥 he said.
