After missing the cut in his home town last week, Corey Renfrew had a nice bounce-back start at the inaugural GolfBC Championship at Gallagher鈥檚 Canyon Golf and Country Club on Thursday.

The Victoria product posted a 6-under 65 in Round 1 at the Mackenzie Tour stop in Kelowna on PGA Tour sa国际传媒, good for second place, one shot behind leader Caleb Sturgeon of South Carolina.

鈥淚 worked hard over the weekend and came into this week with a different attitude, trying to go get it instead of letting it come to me. I think I was just relaxed from the get-go, even though I started with a bogey on my second hole. I just stayed patient and had fun out there,鈥 said Renfrew, who is tied with French Polynesia鈥檚 Vaita Guillaume and Jake Knapp of Cosa Mesa, California.

It was Renfrew鈥檚 best career opening round as he makes his 40th start on Mackenzie Tour.

Also teeing it up this week is Jacqueline Bendrick, who became the first female to compete on the Mackenzie Tour (PGA Tour sa国际传媒 era). Playing on a sponsors鈥 exemption, the 20-year-old collegiate player from Mercer Island, Washington, opened with a first round 9-over 80, last in the field of 156 players.
