Road-tripping Victoria Royals beat Kootenay Ice, fall to Calgary Hitmen

The Victoria Royals (18-15-1) split a pair of Western Hockey League games, defeating the Kootenay Ice 4-3 in overtime at Cranbrook on Monday, before travelling to Calgary for a 6-3 loss Tuesday against the Hitmen.

The Victoria Royals (18-15-1) split a pair of Western Hockey League games, defeating the Kootenay Ice 4-3 in overtime at Cranbrook on Monday, before travelling to Calgary for a 6-3 loss Tuesday against the Hitmen.

D-Jay Jerome鈥檚 15th goal of the season, at 3:37 of overtime, gave the Royals the victory in Cranbrook against the Ice (8-24-7). Dante Hannoun, Kaid Oliver and Dino Kambeitz scored the other Victoria goals. Rookie goaltender Brock Gould made 29 saves for the victory.

Hannoun scored his 19th goal of the season against the Hitmen (17-16-4) in Calgary, while Oliver recorded his his 17th and Brandon Cutler his eighth.

With his goal Tuesday, Hannoun tied Jack Walker for fourth all-time in franchise scoring. The 20-year-old veteran Hannoun has registered 248 points on 97 goals and 151 assists in his Royals career.

Calgary built a 5-1 lead on veteran starting goaltender Griffen Outhouse, who was replaced by Gould in the second period.

The Royals, who have had to vacate Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre for the 2019 IIHF world junior championship, are 2-2 in their six-game, 3,900-kilometre road trip through the Central Division of the Eastern Conference. The swing concludes Friday in Edmonton against the Oil Kings and Saturday in Red Deer against the Rebels.

The Royals return to the Memorial Centre next Wednesday to play the Kamloops Blazers.
