MEDICINE HAT 4VICTORIA 2

Two goals by Victoria Royals rookie forward Ty Yoder weren’t enough as the host Medicine Hat Tigers defeated the Royals 4-2 on Saturday night in Western Hockey League action in southern Alberta.

Yoder’s second goal tied matters 2-2 at 1:51 of the third period before Ryan Chyzowski scored the game winner at 5:14 followed by Ryan Jevne’s empty-net goal for the Tigers. James Hamblin led the Tigers with two goals.

Griffen Outhouse made 26 saves in goal for Victoria (17-14-1) and Garin Bjorklund 21 for Medicine Hat (19-15-3).

It was the second contest of a six-game road swing for the Royals, who have vacated Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre to make way for Pool B of the 2009 IIHF world junior tournament. The trip through the Central Division of the Eastern Conference began with a 6-2 victory over the Hurricanes on Friday in Lethbridge.

The Royals’ swing continues Monday in Cranbrook against the Kootenay Ice, Tuesday in Calgary against the Hitmen, Friday in Edmonton against the Oil Kings and next Saturday in Red Deer against the Rebels.

The next Victoria home game is Jan. 9 at the Memorial Centre against the Kamloops Blazers.
