The Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League announced the schedule for their 2017 draft, rookie, and main training camps set to take place at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.
The Royals’ training camp will open Aug. 23 with draft camp for players selected in the 2017 WHL bantam draft.
Rookie camp is Aug. 25-27 for players born in 2001 and 2002, skaters who have been drafted or listed by the Royals, and free-agent invites.
The main camp Aug. 28-29 will be comprised of returning players from the club’s 2016-17 roster, free-agent invitees born from 1997-2000 and selected players from this year’s draft and rookie camps. The players will be divided into three teams for on-ice practice and scrimmage sessions that run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Royals begin their preseason schedule on Sept. 1 and 2 with games in Kamloops against the Blazers and in Kelowna against the Rockets.
The WHL regular season begins Sept. 22 when the Royals travel to Langley to face the Vancouver Giants.
