Royals to open season with pair against Giants

The sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ has learned the Royals will again open the 2013-14 WHL regular season with back-to-back games against the Vancouver Giants — Sept. 20 at the PNE Pacific Coliseum followed by the home curtain-raiser the following night at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.

Victoria then settles into a mini two-game homestand on Blanshard against the Spokane Chiefs Sept. 24-25 before embarking on a four-game road trip with contests in Kelowna, Kamloops and two in Prince George from Sept. 28-Oct 4.

WHL arenas will be dark on both Grey Cup day Nov. 24 and Super Bowl Sunday Feb. 2, 2014.

In what is becoming another tradition, Victoria again concludes the regular season with back-to-back games against the Everett Silvertips March 14 at the Memorial Centre and March 15 in Everett.

The playoffs begin March 21.

The WHL schedule will be officially released today but details were uncovered by the Kamloops Daily News on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Victoria will tune up by playing in a preseason tournament hosted by the Silvertips in Everett, meeting the ’Tips on Aug. 30, Seattle Thunderbirds on Aug. 31 and the Tri-City Americans on Sept. 1.

The Royals’ exhibition tenure concludes with a Saturday matinee against the Giants on Sept. 14 at the Memorial Centre followed by a game against the Giants in Ladner the following day.
