A pair of Victoria Shamrocks will be trading in their Green and White at the end of the Western Lacrosse Association season for what is expected to be Green, White and Black.
Goaltender Aaron Bold and defender Ryan Dilks were both members of the Edmonton Rush of the National Lacrosse League, who officially relocated to Saskatoon on Tuesday as the league champions shift a province to the east in the 2016 pro season to become the Saskatchewan Rush.
“I’m sure there will be some green in there somewhere,” Bold said with a chuckle. “We’re going to embrace it, just like we embraced it in Edmonton.
“Unfortunately, it’s not in Edmonton anymore,” said Bold, a Victoria native who moved to the Alberta capital three years ago and has played there the last four seasons. “I relocated there. I’m glad I moved there when I did to help the community build up the minor systems and I’m going to continue to do that because I have embedded myself in Edmonton.
“I definitely want to get the Prairie provinces up and going with lacrosse through the minor systems so that all of saʴý can be competitive, not just saʴý and Ontario.”
In the end, Bold realizes why owner Bruce Urban had to move after 10 campaigns in Edmonton.
“It is a business. You need to go somewhere where you are successful with revenues,” he said. [email protected]
