Nail Yakupov, Mikhail Grigorenko, Maxim Shalunov, Mikhail Nau-menkov, Valentin Zykov and Alexander Khokhlachev scored for Russia. Xavier Ouellet and Jean-Sebastien Dea replied for the QMJHL.

Grigorenko, a Quebec Remparts forward, beat QMJHL goalie Etienne Marcoux at 9: 49 in the first period. Yakupov, who was selected first overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL draft earlier this year, made it 2-0.

The six-game series continues Wednesday in Val-d'Or, Que., before moving to the OHL and WHL for two games apiece.
