Vancouver Island golfers had their fair share of success at prestigious tournaments in Ontario on Thursday.
Jim Rutledge followed up an opening 7-under 64 on Wednesday with an even-par 71 and takes a two-shot lead into today鈥檚 final round of the PGA of sa国际传媒 Senior Championship at Credit Valley Golf and Country Club in Mississauga.
Rutledge is looking to earn that title back after claiming the top prize in 2010, 2012 and 2013. Quebec鈥檚 Remi Bouchard, who won it last year, is currently tied for seventh, seven shots back.
Rutledge sits two strokes up on fellow Champions Tour player Rod Spittle, who had rounds of 70-67 to start the three-day event. Scott Allred of Elbow Springs in Calgary and Philip Jonas of Hazelmere in Vancouver are one back of Spittle.
Meanwhile, Royal Colwood鈥檚 Kevin Carrigan turned in the lowest score of the day in the final round of the Canadian Men鈥檚 Amateur Championship at the Weston Golf and Country Club near Toronto.
Carrigan鈥檚 7-under-65 propelled him into a five-way tie for sixth place, finishing at a 4-under 283 total after the four-day event. He finished eight strokes back of champion Billy Kennedy of Georgia, who easily won by six shots.
Pheasant Glen鈥檚 Brayden Eriksen used a 2-under 70 on Friday to finish one shot back of Carrigan in a tie for 11th place. Zach Anderson of Nanaimo (tied for 52nd) and Courtenay鈥檚 Logan Yanick (75th) were the only other Islanders to survive the two-day cut.
