Barring a minor miracle, Jim Rutledge will have to wait another year to have his name along side a Canadian golfing legend.
Rutledge, the former PGA Champions Tour player from Victoria, shot a 1-under 69 in the second round of the PGA Seniors Championship of sa国际传媒 on Thursday at Ledgeview Golf Club in Abottsford. The 63-year-old is in a tie for ninth place, seven shots back of leader Alan McLean of Ontario. A victory today would give Rutledge eight PGA Seniors Championship of sa国际传媒 titles, tieing him with Moe Norman, who currently holds the record.
McLean, who plays out of Echo Valley Golf Club in London, Ont., and is fresh off a 42nd-place finish at the recent U.S. Senior Open, stayed in high gear Thursday shooting a 5-under 65 to extend his overall lead to four strokes over Dennis Hendershott, Danny King and Kendal Yonomoto. David Morland IV is another shot back in fifth. Philip Jonas is tied with Rutledge at 1-under overall.
Other Island notables at the tournament include Lance McCullough of Cordova Bay, who is in a tie for 20th after two rounds of 73, Olympic View general manager Randy Frank, who is in 25th place after rounds 78 and 69, and Gorge Vale pro Edd Boudreau, who is tied for 30th after firing round of 73 and 76.
The final round goes today.
