The Victoria Shamrocks and the Junior Shamrocks were both busy at their respective trade deadlines, one more so than the other.
Shamrocks general manager Chris Welch tweaked his three-time Western Lacrosse Association champion roster by acquiring transitional player Doug Langlois from the Nanaimo Timbermen at the league deadline on Thursday night. In exchange, Welch gives up a fifth-round draft pick in 2017.
Langlois, a six-foot, 200-pounder, is from the Toronto area, but has played his junior and senior lacrosse in Nanaimo. He appeared in 84 WLA games (over six seasons) and collected 38 goals and 37 assists for 75 points. In 10 games in this current campaign, Langlois has added two goals and eight helpers with the Timbermen.
鈥淟anglois is a gritty veteran who adds depth to our back end, but can also play up front, if needed,鈥 Welch said of the addition.
The Mann Cup-champion Shamrocks next play in Langley on Wednesday, before returning home Friday to play host to the Coquitlam Adanacs.
The Junior Shamrocks made several moves for the future as they neared their trade deadline in the sa国际传媒 Junior A Lacrosse League. The Junior Shamrocks (8-11 and in sixth place) shipped Nate Wade, Adam Jay and future considerations to the Delta Islanders for goaltender Will Kinnaird, Riley Taylor, first- and third-round draft picks in 2018 and future considerations on Thursday.
Earlier, the Junior Shamrocks moved cousins Guy Cullen and Rees Cullen to the Okotoks Raiders of Rocky Mountain Junior A League (Alberta) for future considerations.
Unlikely to make the playoffs 鈥 unless they can defeat both Langley at home at The Q Centre today at 5 p.m. and the stubborn Delta Islanders on the road on Sunday 鈥 the Shamrocks instead looked to the future to solve netminding issues.
Teams had also expressed interest in several other Victoria players including Cole Pickup and Zack Christianson.
