Shamrocks bring back Webster

Veteran coach named an assistant

A familiar face will be back on the Victoria Shamrocks bench for the 2013 season.

Art Webster is returning as an assistant coach, the Western Lacrosse Association club announced Monday.

Webster will work alongside the returning members of the coaching staff - head coach Bob Heyes and assistant coaches Jordan Sundher and Dave Lowdon.

Webster had been head coach of the WLA's Nanaimo Timbermen the past three seasons, stepping down recently after the T-Men's 6-11-1 WLA season in 2012.

He has also been an assistant coach with the Washington Stealth of the National Lacrosse League the last seven years and was part of their NLL championship season in 2010.

Webster's Shamrocks connections, however, are his deepest and longest in lacrosse. He was a member of the Shamrocks organization - as a player, captain, head coach and assistant coach - for 30 years prior to taking the Nanaimo head coaching position.

With the Shamrocks, Webster won two Mann Cup championships as a player in 1979 and 1983 and two as an assistant coach in 2003 and 2005.

"Art bleeds the deepest . . . shade of green," said Shamrocks GM

Chris Welch, in a release. "He's a great team guy and brings a wealth of experience to our young group."

The Shamrocks, who were 11-7 in the 2012 regular season, begin the 2013 WLA campaign in May.
