鈥淗e鈥檚 fully committed for playoffs and that extends to the Mann Cup in hopes that we get there,鈥� said Shamrocks general manager Chris Welch. 鈥淚t is fairly minimal for the regular season.
鈥淲e won鈥檛 see him for a little while. It鈥檚 a fairly minimal regular season commitment due to his work commitments in Calgary and his playing commitments with the Hamilton Nationals [Major Lacrosse League].鈥�
The Victoria native, who is coming off a 45-goal performance with the Washington Stealth (National Lacrosse League championship finalists), has 152 goals and 171 assists in 76 regular-season and playoff games for the Shamrocks from 2008-2011.
鈥淲e鈥檙e obviously very pleased to welcome Rhys back,鈥� added Welch. 鈥淗e鈥檚 one of the top players in the world today and he鈥檚 a Victoria guy who grew up dreaming of winning a championship with the Shamrocks. What more could you ask for?鈥�
Victoria begins its season Friday at 7:45 p.m. at Bear Mountain Arena against the Coquitlam Adanacs.
An opening tailgate party begins at 6 p.m. on Friday with the first 400 receiving free legendary burgers and the first 200 children getting a collector edition Shamrock player poster. Season seats or single-game tickets are available by calling 250-478-ROCK or online at victoriashamrocks.com and the game-day box office opens at 11 a.m.
Newest additions Dylan Evans, Scott Carnegie and Tyler Burton are expected here for the opener.
