Shamrocks roll over Thunder

Despite an 11-day layoff, the Victoria Shamrocks wasted little time getting back into a groove on Wednesday, silencing the Langley Thunder 15-6 in Western Lacrosse Association play at the Langley Events Centre.
Despite an 11-day layoff, the Victoria Shamrocks wasted little time getting back into a groove on Wednesday, silencing the Langley Thunder 15-6 in Western Lacrosse Association play at the Langley Events Centre.

With the win, Victoria (7-3) moves into a first place tie with the New Westminster Salmonbellies (6-3-2), but do have a game in hand. Langley is at the bottom of the standings at 1-11.

The Shamrocks built up a 5-0 lead 11:18 into the game before settling on a 7-2 intermission lead. They also led 10-5 after 40 minutes of play.

Recently acquired goaltender Adam Shute made his first start for the Shamrocks and turned aside 41 shots in the victory. Rocky Bowman and Brodie MacDonald shared the netminding duties for the Thunder, facing a total of 44 shots.

Jesse King returned to the Shamrocks鈥 roster for just the second time this season and recorded an impressive nine-point night with four goals and five assists. He鈥檚 now had four goals in both appearances.

鈥淗e makes a huge difference to our team. He鈥檚 that extra dynamic guy. He had a great game tonight and he adds that dimension of being one of the premier players in the game,鈥 said Shamrocks head coach Bob Heyes.

WLA points leader Rhys Duch added a goal and seven assists, while captain Corey Small finished with two goals and three helpers. Chris Wardle had two goals while Jon Harnett, Myles Kenny, Tyler Burton, Jeff Shattler, Cory Conway and Ian McShane added singles.

Matt Kristiansen, with a pair, Dustin Doudelet, Jakob Doucet, Jordan Dance and Cole Shafer replied for the Thunder.

Victoria is home to Coquitlam on Friday at 7:45 p.m.
