The big names continue to flow in for the 2016 Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship, set for Sept. 19-25 at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Mountain course in Langford.
Tournament organizers announced World Golf Hall of Fame members Vijay Singh, Mark O鈥橫eara and Colin Montgomerie, as well as four-time European Ryder Cup team member Miguel Angel Jimenez have committed to playing the PGA Tour Champions event.
They will also be joined by 1982 Masters champion Craig Stadler; former U.S. Presidents Cup team captain Jay Haas; 2005 Players Championship winner Fred Funk; and 11-time PGA Tour winner John Cook.
A total of 81 players will battle for $2.5 million US in purse money with the winner collecting a $375,000 cheque.
Singh won 34 times over a standout PGA Tour career, including major championship wins at the 1998 and 2004 PGA Championship, as well as the 2000 Masters. A total of 31 of his 34 victories came during the Tiger Woods era and the 34 triumphs rank 14th on the all-time PGA Tour wins list, ahead of names such as Lee Trevino, Gary Player and Johnny Miller.
Jiminez is one of the more flamboyant players on tour, known for his cigar-chomping and unique stretching exercises. The Spaniard has won an event each of the last three years on PGA Tour Champions, with a victory at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic in April serving as the most recent.
Jimenez has been the best player on tour this year behind Bernhard Langer, recording seven top-5 finishes in eight events.
Tournament week in Victoria will begin with pro-ams mid-week, followed by 54 holes of championship play from the Friday through Sunday, with no cut.
All three rounds will be broadcast live by The Golf Channel to more than 80 countries around the world.
