The defending-champion St. Michaels University School Blue Jags are still very much alive.
Last year鈥檚 double-A provincial victors defeated Saint Patrick鈥檚 67-48 in quarter-final action of the 2016 sa国际传媒 High School Boys Basketball Championship at the Langley Events Centre on Thursday afternoon.
No. 1-ranked G.W. Graham is next up for coach Ian Hyde-Lay and the Blue Jags as they meet tonight at 7.
鈥淩eally pleasing team effort, especially defensively,鈥 said Hyde-Lay. 鈥淥nce we limited our turnovers, they found it difficult to score.鈥
Lucas de Vries had 14 points and 14 rebounds and was named SMUS鈥檚 player of the game. Ryan Hindson led the way with 26 points and Jamison Schulz-Franco added 10 for the No. 5 Blue Jags against No. 4 St. Patrick鈥檚.
In one previous meeting, G.W. Graham defeated SMUS in exhibition play, 71-57, blowing open a tight game in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, the No. 2 Lambrick Park Lions faced No. 10 Abbotsford Christian on Thursday at 8:15 p.m. The Lions easily won a late Wednesday game 100-54 over Smithers. The No. 11 Shawnigan Lake Stags were defeated 66-52 by No. 3 Collingwood in another Thursday quarter-final.
In quadruple-A play, the No. 4 Oak Bay Bays met No. 5 Walnut Grove in another late quarter-final (also unavailable). Earlier, Sir Winston Churchill defeated Cowichan 81-65 in consolation play.
In triple-A play, No. 8 Mark Isfeld of Courtenay was dumped in quarter-final action, losing 78-47 to No. 1 Southridge. In consolation play, Wellington defeated Matthew McNair 80-74 and Nanaimo District beat Charles Hays 55-45.
At the single-A level, No. 5 Duncan Christian fell 63-48 to No. 4 Credo Christian in quarter-finals and No. 11 sa国际传媒 Christian Academy downed No. 14 St. Andrew鈥檚 78-54 in consolation action.
At single-A senior girls鈥 provincials, the host Duncan Christian Chargers lost 47-36 to Lakes District and St. Andrew鈥檚 was defeated 63-53 by Northside Christian, both in consolation play.
