Start your engines: Western Speedway revs up for another season

Auto racing begins tonight with strictly a claimer car race at 7 that will last 200 laps or two hours and continues with demo car, truck, mini figure eight, bomber, claimer and capital drifting events on Saturday, the opening night.

Gates on regular nights open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 630 p.m. at the Langford facility.

Highlights for the season include the Victoria auto racing hall of fame night on May 14; the Market on Millstream & Yates monster truck nights, May 27-29; Triangle RV Island team demo night, June 4; West Coast Tire and Wheel Strawberry Cup, June 10-11; Slegg Building Materials night of Mayhem, featuring the Beast jet dragster, June 25; the mid-season championship, July 1-2; Decks by Greg eve of destruction night, July 9; military appreciation night, July 16; Wayne鈥檚 Trucking monster truck weekend, July 22-23; Seawings Express fan appreciation night, Aug. 6; the Daffodil Cup, Aug. 12-13; Reg Midgley sa国际传媒 200 & Two Burley Men Moving street stock invitational, Sept. 3-4; Freedom Rent to Own/Cash Advantage championship, Sept. 17; and Hydroforce Excavating championship night on Sept. 24, which culminates with fireworks.

Admission prices this season are $15 for adults; $10 for seniors and youths; and $7 for children 7-12 years of age. Children six and under are free. Marni Jacobs, who assists with marketing, says there is also a six-pack available to fans which includes six admissions, six hot dogs and six drinks for $49.

鈥淭he weather is going to hold. They鈥檙e calling for cloudy, but we鈥檙e good to go,鈥 said Jacobs.
