Brad Jacobs says he and his Team sa国际传媒 rink plan to enjoy Victoria during their 12-day stay at the 2013 Ford World Men鈥檚 Curling Championship, but this is definitely a business trip.
Jacobs and his third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden and lead Ryan Harnden get down to work Saturday at 2 p.m. in Draw 1 against China鈥檚 Rui Liu at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre, following the 12:30 p.m. opening ceremonies.
sa国际传媒 is the three-time defending champion at the world championship and has won five of the last six.
鈥淭here鈥檒l be a few smiles and laughs here and there, more so off the ice than on the ice. When we鈥檙e on the ice, we鈥檙e out there to do a job,鈥 Jacobs said after the team arrived in Victoria on Thursday afternoon.
鈥淭here will be a lot of focus, a lot of intensity and emotion. That鈥檚 how we are and hopefully the crowd will like that.鈥
The Northern Ontario rink is coming off an impressive Brier championship win in which it destroyed Manitoba鈥檚 Jeff Stoughton 11-4 in the final. The Sault Ste. Marie team will get its first look at the ice today at 1 p.m. on the first practice session along with China, Sweden and Finland.
鈥淚t鈥檚 great to finally be here,鈥 added Jacobs. 鈥淓verything seems like a big blur, from the moment we arrived at the Brier [in Edmonton 鈥檛ill now. We wouldn鈥檛 trade this for the world.
鈥淭his is what we always wanted as kids. It just feels amazing,鈥 added Jacobs, who promises a workmanlike effort from his crew.
鈥淭his is a huge honour,鈥 he said of wearing the maple leaf.
鈥淔rom our team you鈥檒l see a lot of intensity, a lot of focus and emotion. These are the things we bring to the table.鈥
